- LITIGATION. Trial work in civil litigation, primarily tort, commercial and business litigation in state and federal courts. This area of practice encompasses all areas of insurance defense including aviation, products liability, professional malpractice, general liability and casualty. He has a widely diversified experience in air carrier litigation, aviation product manufacturer litigation, aerial applicator/toxic tort litigation, and fixed base operator and aircraft owner/operator litigation. Aviation insurance defense experience includes aviation insurance coverage issues and declaratory judgment litigation. The litigation practice includes appellate work at all levels through the Supreme Court of the United States.
- BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS. These services include organizing and structuring business entities and business transactions, negotiating contracts, negotiating and structuring acquisitions, financing and commercial transactions.
- The transactions practice includes representation of aircraft dealers and brokers, and other general business clients, and involves the acquisition, sale, financing, leasing, management, and operation of transport aircraft and executive jet aircraft; banking transactions involving asset based and floor plan financing for aircraft and inventory; and complex aircraft construction and interior finishing contracts.
Aviation Ratings and Experience Mr. Smith holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, a Learjet Type Rating, Flight Instructor, Ground Instructor Certificates, and Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic Certificate, is an FAA Accident Prevention Safety Counselor, and is a member of the International Society for Air Safety Investigators, he maintains his currency and regularly attends FlightSafety International Inc.'s recurrent flight training programs.

1976 to 1991 - appointed Accident Prevention Safety Counselor by the Federal Aviation Administration and has spoken at many aviation safety meetings at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration.
